Barry Wayne's Venting Event is a fun, positive opportunity for participants to express their views, issues and concerns through a very solution-oriented conversation. Barry Wayne Simon was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He attended the University of Oregon and Portland State University, where he received his Bachelors in Science degree with an emphasis on business and psychology. Simon now resides in Santa Monica, CA after living in San Francisco and Marin County as well as Florence, Italy. Simons' career has been and continues to be an investment broker. Having been with Dean Witter for 12 years and an independent financial consultant with TriQuest Financial, Encino/Wedbush Morgan Securities (www.wedbush.com) since 1997, Simon assists his clients in establishing and managing portfolios that help them realize their financial goals. In addition, Simon has participated in stand-up comedy, acting, and also co-facilitated a bereavement group for L.A. Shanti, which serves individuals and families effected by life threatening illness such as cancer and AIDS. It was out of this varied life experience that Simon created and began hosting "Barry Wayne's Venting Events" three years ago as a community service. Venting Events have been held monthly for the last two years in Santa Monica. The events have been featured on CNN Headline News, KTLA Channel 5 with Hal Fishman, and in the Los Angeles Times. The events have been taped and edited into a local cable television show airing on Century Cable, Adelphia, Time Warner, Media One and TCI. Venting Events give the audience/participants and opportunity to express their views, concerns and solutions to the issues of the day. Topics at the community events have included "Leadership in America", "Sex, Lies and Relationships", "How to Create more Peace, Love and Nonviolence in your Life" as part of the Season for Nonviolence, and "Giving Thanks and Thanks for Giving", an annual Thanksgiving/Holiday season event to allow participants an opportunity to "vent" something they are thankful for while providing new toys and shoes to the foster children served by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services. Venting Events are now available to businesses and organizations to improve morale, reduce stress and create a more compassionate and productive work environment. Simons' other interests include: active participation at Agape, Landmark Education, and as a member of the Board of Directors of B'nai B'rith International of Southern California. Simon also enjoys yoga, golf, racquetball, bicycling and reading.
In-house Venting Events for associations, organizations and businesses are held before, during or after work hours or as a program included in conventions, conferences and retreats. They may be held on site or off site in a hotel room, class room or theater setting depending on the customers needs and desires. Community Venting Events are free and held in various coffee houses, schools and theaters around the country. (see Upcoming Events page)
No. The ability for participants to express their views, issues and concerns and hear supportive feedback and solutions does have a therapeutic-like result in that people leave feeling better, with improved understanding and are less stressed.
Venting Events are designed with your specific needs in mind. They can be as brief as 1 1/2 hours or designed as 1/2 day and full day programs that might include various team building games, health and exercise information, more involved discussions with communication experts, etc.
Because of the unique structure and custom design, the fee varies from event to event. Some Venting Events are 1 1/2 hours with no follow-up while other may include quarterly follow-ups and/or one-on-one "coaching" opportunities, audio/video services, etc. Please call or email to discuss your specific needs and desires.
