LOS ANGELES, CA, APRIL 23, 2004 --- Since 1997, Barry Wayne Simon has been earning a reputation as a motivational force in Los Angeles, where his "venting events" have provided a forum for thousands of Southern Californians to discuss (or "vent" about) the issues affecting their city and state. With topics such as violence, drugs and homelessness being discussed, Simon's "venting events" have been featured in The Los Angeles Times and have been called, "Better than therapy," by CNN. On Saturday, May 22, Simon will take his unique brand of venting to the national level when he brings "Speak Out America" to Washington, D.C. Scheduled from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Lincoln Memorial, "Speak Out America" will be an organized public forum for American citizens to express their passions, concerns and solutions on key issues facing the country.

The goal of "Speak Out America" is to give voice to citizens' concerns and solutions, thus making a positive impact on the direction of the country and the world. The event is open to people of any age, race, political party and socio-economic background, and participants are encouraged to bring whatever is on their mind to this forum. Among the topics to be addressed: the war in Iraq, the November elections, taxes, jobs, healthcare and the Middle East, as well as terrorism, the environment, education, truth in government, human rights and racism. All attendees will have an opportunity to be heard, and participants will be given up to five minutes to express themselves. In addition to the general public, those expected to attend include government officials, senators, representatives, and various advocates and community leaders.

"This event is for and about America and the future USA that we want to design as a renewed beacon of possibility to the world," said Simon. "Even if you have just a few minutes to stop by, we encourage everyone to come and speak out or listen to what is being said. By banding together, we can become an even stronger and more united nation."

The Lincoln Memorial was selected as the location for "Speak Out America" as it is one of the most profound symbols of American democracy, celebrating the accomplishments that have united the nation for more than 200 years. It is also a place where citizens assemble to draw attention to those causes and issues that continue to divide the country. People from all walks of life come to the Lincoln Memorial to be inspired with the spirit of President Lincoln's fierce determination to save the Union and his extraordinary compassion towards those who had been denied freedom.

"Speak Out America" is a not-for-profit forum intended to increase voter participation, making possible a world that works for everyone.
